When discussing people's aspirations, General Secretary Xi Jinping first mentioned education.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Party, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has attached great importance to education, considering it a significant national and Party task, elevating the status of education in development with a more prominent position, convening a national education conference, and implementing the "China Education Modernization 2035" plan. This work aims to accelerate the modernization of education, build a strong country in education, and provide satisfactory education for the people.

Building a strong country in education centers on basic education. On the eve of Teachers' Day in 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping returned to his alma mater, the Beijing Bayi School. At this school where he spent his primary and junior high school years, the General Secretary emphasized two important aspects of basic education: cultivating moral character and raising the nation's quality.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, as of 2022, there are a total of 201,600 schools in China at the compulsory education stage, with 10.65 million full-time teachers and 159 million students. This stage of education has the longest duration and the largest number of students within the entire education system. With the comprehensive popularization of compulsory education in our country, the strategic task of balanced development has been pursued. After achieving basic balanced development at the county level, we are now moving towards high-quality and balanced development.

Building a strong country in education, higher education leads the way. The construction of distinctive and world-class universities with Chinese characteristics should not follow others by copying foreign universities. Over the past decade since the 18th National Congress of the Party, China has built the world's largest higher education system, and higher education has entered a universally recognized stage of popularization. Over 800 postgraduate training units nationwide have produced over 600,000 doctoral candidates and over 6.5 million master's degree graduates for the forefront of economic and social development, providing strong talent support for the development of the Party and the country.
Building a strong country in education, vocational education is a significant growth pole. On August 20, 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Shandan Peili School in Zhangye, Gansu Province, entering modern manufacturing technology training rooms and smart home training rooms, observing vocational skill training, and pointing out that the real economy is an important pillar of China's economy. Strengthening the real economy requires a large number of skilled personnel and the promotion of the spirit of craftsmanship. The development prospects of vocational education are broad and promising.
In the past decade of the new era, China's vocational education system has trained over 61 million highly skilled workers and technical professionals for various industries. These graduates with specialized skills have entered advanced manufacturing, strategic emerging industries, modern service industries, and other fields, becoming a youthful force that supports the transformation and upgrading of China's industrial structure and the improvement of manufacturing and service levels.
In today's China, the world's largest education system has been established, nurturing talents, consolidating the foundation, implementing targeted strategies, and striving for excellence in quality. The high-quality development of education is not only related to improving the quality of the population but also a crucial driving force for the high-quality development of the national economy and society.
