Fruitful Results in the Chongwen Historical Research! The 70th Anniversary Symposium of the Guangdong Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History Held in Guangzhou

On August 7th, the symposium commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Guangdong Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History was held in Guangzhou. The symposium reviewed the 70-year history of cultural and historical undertakings in Guangdong, summarized the experiences in cultural and historical research work, and explored the high-quality development of cultural and historical work. The Central Research Institute of Culture and History and various provincial (autonomous region, municipal) research institutes of culture and history sent congratulatory messages.

Since its establishment on August 7, 1953, the Guangdong Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History has always adhered to the principle of "respecting the elderly, cherishing culture, preserving history, and serving the state." It has earnestly fulfilled its functions in cultural heritage, consultation on state affairs, democratic supervision, and united front activities. The institute has played a unique role in inheriting and promoting the outstanding traditional culture of Lingnan (Southern China) and has achieved fruitful results.

According to the reporter's findings at the symposium, in recent years, the provincial research institute has actively organized and supported its staff in writing books and publications. A total of 115 volumes of books highlighting the characteristics of Lingnan have been published, including 21 volumes of "China's Regional Culture Overview: Guangdong Volume," 41 volumes in the "Librarian Library" and "Librarian Art Library" series, and 11 volumes of collections based on forums and academic seminars, creating symbols of Lingnan culture in the new era. The institute has collected over 4,400 ancient books and documents from the Republican era, totaling more than 26,000 volumes, reaching the standards of a provincial key protected unit for ancient books. It has carefully selected and published valuable reprints of ancient books, effectively leveraging the value of the institute's ancient book collections. The institute has organized its staff and special research fellows to conduct in-depth research on 52 cultural topics, including the inheritance of Lingnan culture, red revolutionary sites and relics, historical and cultural figures, intangible cultural heritage, and rural cultural revitalization. They have submitted over 90 research proposals, many of which have been adopted and implemented by relevant departments. The institute has actively built cultural exchange platforms, established the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Cultural and Historical Forum," and held academic seminars on "Guangdong Cultural Heritage Protection and Utilization." It has also launched the "Lingnan Culture Enters Campus" activity, promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of Lingnan culture.

Culture prospers the nation, and strong culture makes a strong nation. The symposium emphasized the need to deeply understand the significant role of culture in the new era and new journey, promote the high-quality development of cultural and historical work in the new era, focus on strengthening team building, enriching high-quality cultural supply, promoting the protection and utilization of ancient books and cultural relics, and conducting in-depth research on humanities and history. It also emphasized enhancing foreign cultural exchanges to continuously enhance the dissemination and influence of Lingnan culture.
